Fancy Footwork for a Better Swing

KarenCardiogolf Daily Dose, Golf Fitness

Typical modern-day professional are flexible enough to get their upper body behind the ball at the top of the swing without having to lift the front foot off the ground. Higher-handicappers, whom may not be a flexible, tend to slide their weight instead of rotate and even lift the front foot to get the club to the top of swing.  From this position it is nearly impossible to shift their weight correctly.

Simply practicing good footwork can help you hit longer more accurate shots.

Foot on Exercise Ball

  1. Place your back foot on an exercise ball as shown and stabilize your front foot so that you can maintain the ball steady.
  2. Cross your arms across your chest.
  3. Make a backswing, maintaining your front foot planted on the ground keeping the ball steady.  Hold position for a moment.
  4. Smoothly and slowing start your downswing and go through to the finish keeping the ball steady as your front foot stays planted. Return to the start position.
  5. Repeat the exercise for 8 to 10 repetitions.
