Get into Golf Shape or Any Shape by the End of Year

KarenGolf Fitness, Misc

As the golf season winds down-for many, golf is put on the back burner during the the fall and winter months.  But even if you are not playing as much golf, you can still work on your game.  The fall and winter months can be the perfect time to work on the physical skills required by the game of golf.

During this period you can:

  • Repair wear and tear from overused and injured golf muscles
  • Condition your body for future golf rounds
  • Improve swing mechanics by improving how your body moves
  • Prevent weight gain that the winter months usually bring us

There are roughly 3 months until the New Year.  That is plenty of time to get in Golf Shape.  Don’t wait until the New Year to start your golf fitness program.  Start by doing a few exercises everyday and you will not only improve your game, but you’ll shape up your body at the same time.

Golf requires the following physical skills:

  • Correct static and dynamic posture
  • Mobility in muscles and joint
  • Flexibility
  • Stability (your ability to hold muscles and joints in place)
  • Strength
  • Balance
  • Power

Use your downtime during the fall and winter to improve your body and your golf game. By improving physical skills allows the body to perform the necessary movements for an effective and powerful swing.

Improve Your Posture

One of the most important aspects of  golf fitness is to improve your posture and you do it by working on your core or trunk.

A strong core allows you to transfer power effectively from the legs to the upper body during the golf swing. A strong core and correct posture also protect your body from strain the golf swing can put on your body.

Here are a few exercises that can help you improve your posture and core strength. Pick one or two exercises to do every day over the next few weeks.  Complete 3 repetitions of each exercise, holding each exercise for at least 10 working up to 30 seconds.
