A Note from Karen

Every week in my Vitalize Your Game with Cardiogolf Blog, I post tips about -injury prevention, mental strategy, golf nutrition and increasing flexibility.  Golf takes a lot of time, so why not get some exercise and practice your golf game at the same time? Try my tips to help improve your fitness and golf game.

Twist exercises in Yoga are very important.  Twist exercises stimulate circulation, which help get blood flowing to muscles and joints for ease of movement.  Increasing your ability to twist your torso can help you increase your range motion in your turn to help you generate more clubhead speed and distance.  Incorporating a few twist exercises into your daily routine can not only help you increase muscle flexibility but also help lengthen and strengthen your low back muscles to prevent injury.

Note: Consult your health care provider if you have any injuries or chronic back pain before doing this or any exercises.

Lower Back Twist-This helps stretch low back muscles, hips and oblique and abdominal muscles while teaching you to stabilize your upper body as your lower body rotates.  Working your upper and lower body independently from each other is an important skill for the golf swing.  This ability will help you create power on your backswing and allow you to start the club on the correct path on the downswing.  Practice this exercise often.  Make sure to stretch both sides equally.  If one side is tighter than the other, then stretch the tight side longer until both sides are equal.

To learn how to do this exercise and other golf-specific exercises take the Cardiogolf 30-Day Challenge.
