Keys to Consistency

KarenFeatured, Golf Fitness

I recently was made aware of a young girl from Pakistan, named Rabia, who loves to play golf from my friends at Womensgolf.com. Womensgolf.com is a golf instructional website that is inspiring women from all over the world and encouraging them to play golf. Rabia asked for some help with her swing. Rabia has a beautiful swing and is already doing a lot of great things in her swing, but she would like some more consistency.

The key to being consistent, no matter what level player you are, is to make sure that the clubface is square at impact.  The legendary Ben Hogan once said that the best golf psychologist in the world is a square clubface.  To achieve a square clubface, you need to make sure your grip is correct and that you start the clubface on the correct path on the backswing because that sets up how the clubface will approach the ball on the downswing.

Here are my suggestions for Rabia to become more consistent. So fun to see girls playing golf from all over the world.  Check out Rabia’s swing.

Rabia Swing Analysis

Rabia,

You do a lot of great things in your swing. You have a beautiful turn and weight shift.   I love your set up.  It looks very athletic.  There are just two things that I want you to focus on for now in your swing to help you become more consistent:

  1. Monitor your grip, specifically your left hand.  You want to make sure that the ‘v’ that your thumb and forefinger form point to the right side of your face, so that the grip of the left hand is a little more in your fingers and in a little stronger position.  Watch the video below to see how to place your hands on the grip.
  2. The takeaway. This is very important in the swing because the way you start your swing back determines how square the clubface will be at impact.  Ideally, you want that clubface to stay square to your body as you take it away.  Avoid letting the clubface roll open on the takeaway.  Watch the video below to see a simple drill for the takeaway.

Please keep me posted with your progress.  I would like to encourage you to join the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Club.  Check out their website for more information-https://www.girlsgolf.org
