KPJ Golf Takes a Break from Golf

The new covered speed skating oval in Inzell, Germany

I have been in Inzell, Germany all week at the 2011 World Speed Skating Championships. As many of you know, I am married to former speed skater and Olympic Gold Medalist Dan Jansen. He trained for many years in Inzell, Germany where the Championships are being and he wanted to checkout the new speed skating oval. It used to be an outdoor oval, now they have covered it because all competitions need to be held on an indoor surface.  Dan said that he was sad to know that it would be covered, but once he saw it in person, he said that it would become one of the best in the world.

I have taken a break from teaching and playing golf this week, but not a break from fitness. Since I couldn’t practice or play golf, I decided to walk, jog and hike to work on my endurance. Endurance in golf is important so that you don’t bonk the last few holes of your round.  To build endurance you need to do cardiovascular exercise to get your heart pumping. Join me as I do something every day to improve my fitness to play better golf.  I always tell my students that it is better to do some movement every day, even if it is just for a few moments, than to wait for the days where you have an hour or two to workout.  Those days hardly ever happen.  This week since I was in Germany, I hiked 6 to 8 miles everyday.  There are so many beautiful trails around mountains and little towns that you can hike for hours.  The Germans are really into their sports and fitness especially cross country skiing.  Here are some pictures at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2103847&id=1065762099.
