Practice Makes Perfect

You don’t always need to go to the driving range or golf course to improve your swing.  You can simply make practice swings in your garage or living room a few minutes a day.

A lot of people overlook the importance of the grip pressure in the golf swing.  Whether you have a conventional or non-conventional grip, you need to keep the pressure the same throughout your swing.  If your grip pressure is tight, then most of your muscles will be tight especially in your arms and shoulders. Hand strength has a good bit to do with how your grip pressure is.  The stronger you are in hands and wrists: the lighter you can hold club. Light grip pressure creates clubhead speed and helps square the clubface at impact.

Alternating back and forth while holding the club with tight and light grip pressure will help you find what is right for you and help you develop some strength, especially important for ladies.

You will see that the tighter you hold the club, the less fast you can swing and the more difficult it is to fully rotate and the lighter you hold it, the faster you can swing.

Practice Your Grip Pressure

  1. First,  grip the club very tightly and take three practice swings.
  2. Secondly,  lighten your grip pressure and take three practice swings. You should feel that it is easier to swing the club freely with lighter grip pressure.
  3. Alternate taking practice swings with light and tight grip pressure, going back and forth to find your optimum grip pressure.
