Day 5-Start Your Swing Out Right

The golf swing is a serious of chain reactions-one event leads to another. If the start of your swing or takeaway is not correct, then you will need to make compensations in your swing to counter the incorrect move. The more compensations you have in your swing, the more difficult it is to strike the ball consistently.

To minimize bad shots, you’ll want start your swing out right, so you eliminate the need for compensations later in the swing.

A true one-piece takeaway is when the club, the arms, the shoulders and torso all move together smoothly to start your golf swing.  Your arms stay connected to your torso.  You want to avoid letting your arms separate from your body as you take the club away.

Imagine the triangle that your shoulders, arms and hands form at address position remain intact as you start your swing.  Your torso or core stabilize as your arms swing back. If you pick the club up too quickly, you’ll destroy the lines of the triangle and your club will veer off plane leading to flaws in the rest of the swing.

Planks and push-ups are very effective in helping you develop strength and control in your core to help you start your swing off right.
