December is Cardiogolf Flexibility Awareness Month

There is only three weeks until we ring in a New Year.  For many of us, this is the time where we resolve to finally get into the best shapes of our lives. But waiting unitl the New Year to start a fitness program and then going ‘full blast’ lifting heavy weights could lead, not only to loss of interest in program, if it is too difficult, but to injury too. Sign up for my blog to see different flexibility exercises all this month to improve your body and golf game.

If you begin a strength training program without preparing your body,  by stretching first, you may not gain any benefits for your golf game and worse, you could injure yourself.  You need you need to stretch out tight and unbalanced muscles before you start to build them up.  Start Stretching Your Body Today to GET READY FOR THE NEW YEAR.

Stretch for a Better Turn

Most  of my students yearn for more distance, especially off the tee. However, if you do not have an upper-body coil you may be just swinging with your arms which is not powerful. Often golfers who swing with only their arms, say all of their clubs go the same distance. This is because there is no power generated from just an arm swing.  Ideally, you want to turn your torso and get your shoulder behind the ball at the top of the swing to create a wide arc.

Stretch for a Better Torso Turn

If your torso is weak and inflexible, then you will end up just taking the club back with your arms.  Here is stretch to help you loosen up your torso.

Torso Stretch on Exercise Ball

1. Sit on an exercise ball, trying to keep your lower body stable.

2. Twist your upper body over the resistance of your lower body.  Place your hand on the opposite knee and hold stretch for 10 to 15 seconds.

3. Repeat stretch on the opposite side.  Repeat stretch two to three times.
