CardioGolf® Flexibility and Mobility

You already know that doing daily flexibility routines can do wonders for your golf swing by making you more flexible so that your swing is more fluid, longer and smoother, but did you also know that flexibility can sharpen your memory too?  A sharper memory can lead to better strategic choices on the golf course which could lead to lower scores.

Could the Cross Crawl exercise have helped Wyndham Clark US Open? Maybe…
Wyndham does the cross crawl exercise waiting on the tee box to stay loose during the back nine of the final round of US Open.
Cross Crawl-CardioGolf Exercise
The Cross Crawl exercise is a staple in my CardioGolf®. It is not only an excellent warm up exercise, but it also helps to activate both sides of the brain.
  • The simple motion of crossing the knee to the opposite elbow, improves coordination and rotation in the core, which is important for the golf swing.
  • Cross crawl or cross marching as it sometimes called, activates your brain and nervous system to give you motor and sensory stimuli.
  • Cross crawl exercise can also help you improve coordination, improve your focus, improve body movement and improve your attention span.
  • According to new research, doing a daily stretch routine can be as effective, at improving your recall and sharpen your memory, as doing a daily brain-training program.
  • The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease states that doing a daily stretch routine can improve your verbal recall, give you more mental energy and help you improve your visual-spiral memory-the type used for navigating directions, all useful on the golf course.

Want to start a golf-fitness program?

Don’t know where to start?  Start by improving your flexibility.  Do exercises that target chronically tight muscles in golfers.

The first and foremost component of a golf fitness program is to stretch and balance muscles before you work on developing stability, strength and speed.

Start by incorporating a warm-up routine before your daily workout, practice or round of golf. You want to target muscles, used in the golf swing, that are chronically tight in golfers. For example: shoulders, upper back, hips and low muscles are typically tight in golfers.
