Two of the Best Yoga Poses for a Better Set-up

KarenCardiogolf Daily Dose, Golf Fitness

Everything you do before you swing determines how well you strike the ball. With a poor set-up, even the best golfers in the world will not hit the ball straight. Take the time to correctly set up each time for a consistent swing.

A quality set up is completely relaxed and tension free.

  1. The stance is about shoulder width, providing a stable base from which to swing.
  2. Bending from the hip sockets as opposed to the waist will allow you to make a powerful body coil.
  3. Flex the knees only slightly.
  4. Let your arms hang naturally, not too close or too far from the body.
  5. Bend from the hip sockets, not your waist.

Check your set-up and posture in front of a mirror and compare it to a photo of a professional golfer from a golf magazine, make sure your model is similar to your build and stature

Cat/Cow Yoga Poses for Better Posture

  1. Kneel on all fours with the knees directly under the hips and the wrists under the shoulders. Try to flatten your back, distributing the weight evenly to hands and knees.
  2. Exhale and round your spine and tuck your pelvis under as your suck in your abdominal muscles. This is the cat position.
  3. Inhale and arch your back as you lift the head and eyes toward the ceiling. This is the cow position.
  4. Hold each position for 3 seconds.
  5. Slowly repeat each pose moving smoothly and slowly between both for 8 to 10 repetitions.
  6. These two poses will help you improve your posture by increases spinal flexibility and even stretch and strengthen your wrists, arms and shoulders.

Golf-Fitness

A well-structured golf-fitness program is built on a system of progressions.  The progressions include flexibility, mobility, balance, strength and power. All muscles are included, but your core muscles (including abdominals, back and hips and glute muscles) form the foundation of your power.  Stretching and strengthening these muscles will help you generate more power and consistency.

Always begin your golf-fitness program by focusing on flexibility and mobility training. Once your foundation is primed and you have increased your flexibility and mobility you can then progress to strength and stability training to increase your distance.
