Is Your Lack of Spinal Mobility Hurting Your Golf Swing?

KarenCardiogolf Daily Dose, Golf Fitness

Spinal mobility decreases with age.  Lack of spinal mobility is associated with poor posture and may restrict your shoulder and torso turn in the golf swing.  Testing your thoracic spine (mid-back)mobility can help determine what types of stretching exercises to incorporate into your daily routine.

Thoracic Spine Extension Test

  1. Lie on your back and raise your arms over your head keeping your arms extended.
  2. Try to touch the floor with your thumbs.
  3. The ideal is to keep both arms extended while touching the floor with both thumbs.
  4. Hold position for 30 seconds.
  5. If you cannot touch the floor with your thumbs, one arm bends or either arm does not extend straight, then you will need to work on flexibility in your mid-back and shoulders.
