Cardiogolf 1000 Practice Swing Challenge Day 1

KarenGolf Fitness, Misc

A note from Karen:

The challenge is straightforward-simply make 1000 practice swings during the month of October to improve your swing technique and increase clubhead speed.

You don’t need to go to the driving range or golf course, you can simply make practice swings in your garage or living room at home a few minutes a day (just make sure that you don’t whack the ceiling or walls!)

If you don't have enough room to swing a regular club, use a soccer ball or tennis racquet to simulate a golf club.

Break it Down-make 30 practice swings a day for 30 days and you will have made 900 swings over the course of a month.  Okay, so it is not exactly a 1000 swings, but close enough (if you really want to get technical, you’ll have to take 33.3333 swing per day to reach 1000 practice swings).  The amount is not the point, the point is to be consistent with your practice; take a few minutes out of your day to work on your golf swing and get some exercise.

Day 1

Check Your Grip-

A lot of people overlook the importance of the grip in the golf swing.  Whether you have a conventional or non-conventional grip, the most important factor is that it allows you to square the clubface at impact.

Here is something you can do  to make sure that your grip is square at impact. Simply take your normal grip like this and extend your arms out as straight as possible.  Your arms would extend like this at impact.  Now you can see if your clubface would be square at impact.  You see if your grip is too strong, then when you straighten your arms, the clubface would close. If your grip is too weak, then your clubface will open.  So you need to adjust your clubface until your clubface is square.

The stronger you are in hands and wrists, the lighter you can hold club (light grip pressure creates clubhead speed and helps square clubface at impact).  So here is a little drill to help you find your grip and increase strength in your hands and wrists.

You want to alternate taking practice swings with light and tight grip pressure.  You will see that the tighter you hold the club, the less fast you can swing and the lighter you hold it, the faster you can swing.  Alternating back and forth with tight and light grip pressure will help you find what is right for you and help you develop some strength especially important for ladies.
