Day 12-10 More Yards in 30 Days

KarenGolf Fitness, Misc

Looking to hit the ball farther? Try this 30-day program.

Everybody wants to hit the ball farther off the tee including me, so I am on a quest to hit the ball longer to score better and have more fun.

Join me as I try to increase my driving distance by 10 yards in 30 days.  By increasing your clubhead speed by just 4 mph faster will give you 12 yards extra distance on average.

Day 12-

The next few days will be doing strength exercises to improve your distance, but first you will want to stretch to prepare your muscles.

If you begin a strength training program without preparing your body,  by stretching first, you may not gain any benefits for your golf game and worse, you could injure yourself.  You need you need to stretch out tight and unbalanced muscles before you start to build them up.

Stretch for a Better Turn

Most  of my students yearn for more distance, especially off the tee. However, if you do not have an upper-body coil you may be just swinging with your arms which is not powerful. Often golfers who swing with only their arms, say all of their clubs go the same distance. This is because there is no power generated from just an arm swing.  Ideally, you want to turn your torso and get your shoulder behind the ball at the top of the swing to create a wide arc.

Stretch for a Better Torso Turn

If your torso is weak and inflexible, then you will end up just taking the club back with your arms.  Here is stretch to help you loosen up your torso.

Torso Stretch on Exercise Ball

1. Sit on an exercise ball, trying to keep your lower body stable. You can place a club behind your shoulders.

2. Twist your upper body over the resistance of your lower body.  Turn the club so your shoulders are at a 90-degree angle. Place your hand on the opposite knee and hold stretch for 10 to 15 seconds.

3. Repeat stretch on the opposite side.  Repeat stretch two to three times.
