Playing Golf Can Be Therapeutic

We all know that playing golf can be challenging, exhilarating and frustrating at the same time, but for some female veterans, playing golf has become therapeutic.  Every week when the weather is warm, women — who served in conflicts including Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan — grab their golf clubs and hit the links for relaxation, fellowship and support.

After flashbacks and post-traumatic stress from combat were trapping one Ohio female veteran in her home, she sought the help of a therapist that introduced her to the game of golf.  She joined a group of veterans whom have formed a group that meet to play golf to help them cope with the trauma and stress from their tours of duty.  Read more here…

To me golf is just more than a game.  It is my life’s work, passion and pastime.  To me golf can be used not only as tool to help get us some well needed exercise, but can improve fine-motor skills, balance, strength and endurance.  It also enables us social participation, fellowship and a chance to be outside in a beautiful environment.  It is not surprising to me that veterans are turning to golf to help them heal.  What does golf do for you?
