1-The Key to a Better Set-Up

A common problem among high-handicappers and even elite golfers is a lack of mobility in the pelvis and hip area from hours of sitting and lack of activity.

To maximize your full potential in the golf swing, you must have the ability to take your joints and muscles through their full range of motion. Performing exercises that focus on muscles that are chronically tight will help your become more efficient in your golf swing.

Learning to set up properly is the key to a better swing.

2-Ball Position You Need for a Long Drive

For the majority of high-handicap golfers the driver is the most difficult club in the bag to hit because it is the longest club and it has the least amount of loft. It will slice more often than not.

Pros set up with their spine tilted away from target at address, with the ball position more forward in the stance which helps them give the ball a more sweeping blow

As opposed to high-handicappers who may lack strength and mobility in spine and hips and set up too much on top of the ball at address which makes them hit down on the ball.

If you have marks on top on your driver because you have hit down on ball with driver and the ball position is too far back in your stance.

3-Straighten Out Your Slice

Slicers and people that pull shots, tend to come over the top on the downswing. The results is that the club swings from the outside to in path. If the clubface is open on this path, the ball will fly left to right a typical Slice Pattern. If the clubface is closed on this path, the will ball go straight to the left, which is related to a slice, but it is calle a Pull Shot.. You will want to learn how to sequence your swing so that you learn to swing the club on the correct plane, so the path is more inside to out.

This drill will help you learn to swing the club on the on the correct path.

Making practice swings instead of hitting balls is a better way to improve your swing technique. If you are trying to learn the swing or make a swing change, rehearsing the move without hitting a ball will assure that you are actually doing the correct move.

5-Learn Basic Chipping Technique

Although the task of chipping may not seem like a highly athletic activity, the more fit and athletic you are the smoother and more accurate you can chip.

In order to chip correctly, you need to bend from your hip sockets and hold your spine angle throughout the stroke.  If your core is weak and inflexible, then you will inevitably stand up through the shot and end up flipping at the ball with the wrists, without much control.  When your core is strong and flexible, you will be able to maintain your spine angle and control the distance with your body rotation-a much more reliable method of chipping than trying to scoop or flip the club with your hands.

Most high-handicappers swing the club back too fast and decelerate on the downswing. The opposite of what you want to do. You actually want the speed to increase on the downswing, not decrease. In this tutorial, you will get detailed instruction on timing, tempo and swing speed drills.
