Golf in October is the best because:

  1. You can play golf without sweating so much.
  2. Golf shops are having a lot of end of year sales, so you can get some great deals.
  3. There is still enough daylight to start your round late in the afternoon.
  4. You can start to wear your fall sweaters in the morning and night.
  5. It’s a great time to start thinking about your fitness before the holiday season.

Would you change the way you eat if you knew certain foods could help you play better golf?

Managing your food intake, hydration levels and adding certain nutrients to your diet can not only help you concentrate and focus more on the golf course, but it can also help you keep your heartbeat steady as you make an important shot or putt, help your muscles fire faster for more power, help you fight fatigue so you can play and practice longer and even help you keep your cool after a bad shot. More importantly good nutrition is good for your overall health and well-being.

We all know the importance that fitness, swing mechanics and equipment can have on our golf games, but are you eating the right foods to sustain enough energy throughout your round to play your best golf? The best equipment in the world won’t make a difference if you don’t have energy to get you around the course. We do not hear as much about nutrition for golf, but rest assured that the most elite golfers of the world follow some sort of diet to provide them with the energy-output they need to play their best. While is it not yet the norm for golfers to follow a specialized nutrition program, it will soon become so.

By simply making simple diet modifications, you can dramatically improve your golf game and more importantly your health and well-being.

On-Course Snack

Here is a quick easy nutritious snack that you can make ahead of time to keep your energy up through your entire round.  I’ve added protein powder and spinach to the classic bran muffin recipe to pack it with vitamins and minerals that help you stay healthy on and off-course.

According to experts, protein, spinach and bran are important elements to add to your diet.

Spinach is a superfood. … Dark, leafy greens like spinach are important for skin, hair, and bone health. They also provide protein, iron, vitamins, and minerals.

Bran bolsters digestive health by providing a good source of insoluble fiber, which can help prevent or treat constipation. It also acts as a prebiotic, promoting the growth of healthy gut bacteria.

Protein is important for every cell in your body to maintain good health and grow and repair new cells.

I use ProFlex20 Protein Powder and also substitute coconut oil for butter, apple sauce for oil and I use sugar substitutes.

I freeze the muffins and then pop them in a baggie frozen, so they defrost as I play and ready to eat on the back nine.

The green muffins match my golf bag…
